Facebook Opens App Center – A Hub For Socially Connected Software on Android & Apple Gadgets

Our Gadget Helpline blog readers may remember our recent article about a new service to be launched by Facebook that will offer us a software market place for all the best and trendy socially-connected mobile apps. That service, which was previously only in trial version, has now officially gone live and the App Center already delivers over 600 Facebook friendly apps.

You’ll need to access Facebook’s App Center through your desktop web-browser, and by feeding off your interests and previously purchased apps, as well as those that your mates have been tinkering with, the social app shop will generate recommendations from what it learns about your download habits and offer up software suggestions in relation to what’s popular in your social circles.

For example if you recently bought Pixlr-o-matic – a photo filtering and social sharing app – you may be recommended to try Instagram. Or, if a pal has become addicted to Draw Something you’ll probably get to hear about it. Facebook promises only the highest quality apps through this new service and it also extends to offering apps for the browser-based Facebook and your personal timeline.

Your suggested apps and your friends’ most used apps are presented in two columns down the middle of the browser-based page in an easy to view interface, and you’ll find that every one of them features the ability to share and interact with others through Facebook connection. Once you’ve chosen an app you like you can link out to either Google Play for Android or the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
