Google’s Senior Vice President of Mobile Andy Rubin has revealed in a tweet that activations of the company’s Android mobile platform have reached 900,000 – Daily.
Latest Android revision, version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was introduced in October 2011, launching in partnership with Samsung on the Galaxy Nexus and is steadily becoming the standard replacing last season’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread on devices such as Sony’s Xperia smartphone range and HTC’s Sensation variations. Some impressive hardware has also been released with the latest edition pre-installed, including the Samsung Galaxy SIII which had secured pre-orders from over 9-million buyers. All of whom will be switching on a new Android gadget right about now. After launching in 2008, the evolution of the Android OS will continue this year with “Jelly Bean” – version 4.1 – which was teased at the Mobile World Congress in February and is expected to become active on new and existing gadgets by the end of this year.
In an additional tweet Rubin shot down the recent rumours that he might be parting ways with Google.
