Last week at Google I/O Developer’s Conference was the official launching pad for the Android OS’s latest update entitled Android Jelly Bean, and in typical fashion as soon as we hear there is a new update to the Android system, we all start clamouring to get the update on our handsets.
First and foremost in our minds is the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is still only a few weeks old and sporting the latest (and best) incarnation of Google’s operating system, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Rumours are coming in fast that Samsung is keen to get the Jelly Bean update onto its flagship handset as soon as possible, with a fourth quarter update looking set to be on the cards – that pins it between October and December.
The new Jelly Bean update is bringing a host of new features to the popular Android OS, including updates to the notification system, smarter widgets, an improved keyboard and Google Chrome integration as the default browser, as well as a visual overhaul.
Google has already announced that the first phones to get the Jelly Bean update will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Google Nexus S but according to sources for YouMobile the Galaxy SIII won’t be too far behind with its update.
Samsung has had a good relationship with Google since the two companies went into partnership with the Samsung Nexus S in 2010, and Samsung providing (in the form of the Galaxy S range) legitimate Android sporting rivals to Apple’s dominant iPhone.
The report claims that Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S3 will receive the Android 4.1 update in the fourth quarter of 2012.
There is still little confirmed news on when Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be officially released to the masses but developers are currently getting Dev Kits to run and test the new features.
