Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Arc S and Mini Pro Android smartphones will not be getting the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
Sony’s Product Manager John Cooper confirmed this on their Facebook page, stating that they will not be updating the Xperia Arc S to the Jelly Bean OS:
“Unfortunately Arc S won’t be getting the Jelly Bean update, but we’re always developing new phones and making sure they get the latest updates.”
Cooper then confirmed that the much older Xperia Mini Pro will also not be getting the Jelly Bean update, which should allow us to assume anything else released around that time or before will not be getting Jelly Bean either.
However, Cooper did confirm “ICS should now be approved for all Xperia S handsets” and that they “currently don’t have anything to announce regarding Jelly Bean for the Xperia S.”
Its not hard to see why the likes of the Xperia Mini are not getting the JB update, as the specs and age of the handset really won’t benefit from having that much software on them, but a streamlined version of the OS could have come to the Xperia Arc S, which up until a few month ago was still a popular contract phone.
You can keep up with Sony’s Q&A on their Facebook page to see if John Cooper lets anything else slip.
