It’s not just Samsung fans getting all the update action of late, and HTC is now pushing out an update to Ice Cream Sandwich on its One X flagship smartphone.
Android 4.0.4 is now being pushed out to the 4.7-inch handset, adding it to the growing list of top-end smartphones to get the very latest version of Google’s software. HTC issued a statement today to kick off the update schedule;
“As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure customers are receiving software updates that improve their user experience, we are pleased to announce our next upgrade for the HTC One X will be released on August 10.”
So what does the update bring? Asides from changing the last number in your software version to ‘4’ it improves the Sense user interface to bring a better user experience, according to HTC. It also gives users the ability to change the recent apps key to become a menu function; something that older HTC devices had but the One series is missing.
The One X’s stock browser has also been given the once-over, with improved tab management including a dedicated tab switching button for quick switching. The new browser is much better, but we still prefer Chrome on Android 4.0 devices.
Beats Audio has supposedly been made better by the update, although HTC hasn’t stated exactly how – we’re hoping for less bass, more balance. The device’s memory management and overall stability is said to be better, which should lead to less software crashes and a faster user experience.
Finally, the Camera functionality has been overhauled with better white balance and better continuous autofocus, the latter of which will come in very handy for shooting moving objects.
The update is rolling out now and can be picked up over the air by connecting your phone to Wi-Fi and entering the Software updates section via Settings and the About subsection.
HTC has revealed that many of its current phones will be getting the Android 4.0 update by the end of August. To find out exactly which phones, check out our previous article.
