Motorola has now started the rollout of the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 update for its Razr and Razr Maxx smartphones in the UK and Europe.
The update was initially supposed to roll out much earlier in the year, but has seemingly gotten stuck in the USA, leaving many frustrated users across the globe. Android Central reports that the long overdue software update is now making its way out of hiding for users in Europe.
Unfortunately, as the case is with almost all software updates, that doesn’t mean that every single Razr and Razr Maxx user will be able to download the update right now. It’s looking likely that the SIM-Free (GSM) models will get the update first, while network-locked handsets will await approval after testing by their network.
Motorola recently took to its European Facebook page to inform the remaining faithful that it would be seeding the update to a “select few”, with a wider rollout coming the week after. This procedure is similar to the way things were done in the US, and is generally known as a “soak test”, to gauge whether there is likely to be any issues.
Naturally, we’ve checked for the update many times on our Razr and Razr Maxx phones, but no dice. We’ll continue to refresh and let you guys know when the update is arriving – currently there are very few stating that they’ve updated.
As a consolation for those who have waited for what must seem like forever to get the update, we’ve had a thorough play with Moto’s Android 4.0 software on a US model, and it’s very fast and smooth. Widgets have also been improved and the lockscreen is very, very cool. Hold tight!
