Samsung vs Apple Trial: Judge Says “It’s time for peace”

In the on-going Apple vs Samsung trial over the supposed patent infringements that Samsung has made, the US judge overseeing the hearing has told Samsung and Apple that “it’s time for peace” and that the two companies must consider settling their differences.

U.S. district judge Lucy Koh said this on Wednesday in a San Jose, California court. Koh asked both Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd to speak to each other at least once on the phone before a jury begins deliberating next week and to try to explore settlement once again.

Koh said that “I see risks here for both sides,” and has asked both of the companies to look into the settlement options to end this ongoing dispute.

The case has done nothing for either parties, with Apple and Samsung having to drag out numerous bits of top secret information including patents, sales figures and prototype devices, all of which can, and have, become public to the world.

Both Apple and Samsung are requesting damages and/or sales bans of the each other’s mobile tech amidst complex claims that they infringed on each other’s intellectual property.

The request from Koh is not the first time the companies have been asked to meet and settle as, Apple and Samsung’s CEOs met in May before the case began to discuss a settlement between the two, to no avail.

The U.S. trial is now in its third week and is looking set to continue on.
