Samsung took to the stage today at their annual Samsung Unlocked conference at the IFA tech event at Berlin and announced possibly the worst kept secret in the tech world, as the company officially unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 5.5 inch Android Smartphone/Tablet.

Over the past few months numerous images and specifications of the follow-up device have been revealed and yesterday Samsung made all of the rumours real. The Samsung Galaxy Ace is a beast of a phone with a larger 5.5inch display, 1.6Ghz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a HD Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 16:9 display.

The follow-up to the successful Galaxy Note, the smartphone/tablet has the original devices S-Pen stylus which adds additional functionality to the Android device but whilst the Screen is larger on the Note 2 the device comes in its thinner, lighter and brighter than on the phone’s predecessor.

Another new addition is the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system on the smartphone which will see the Samsung Note 2 running the most up-to-date OS which has better tablet functionality. The updated Note 2 will also come with a new S-Pen which is being thicker, longer and more ergonomic to hold.

The note comes with some great hardware too as the smartphone will sport an 8-megapixel back camera with an LED flash plus a decent 1.9-megapixel cam on the front for video calls. The Note 2 also has many of the great features from its slimmer brother the Samsung Galaxy S3 with camera features such as Best Photo, Best Faces and Low-light Shot all on the Note 2, plus video playback formatting for MKV and 1080p movies plus most other video and image formats.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will also come with two very hot features in the form of NFC connectivity and 4G connection functionality (Currently not known if this is for the UK or not!)  Plus standard features such as Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and Wi-Fi.

Measurements wise the phone comes in at a wide 80.5 x 151.1 x 9.4mm and weighs just 180g with a large 3,100mAh standard li-ion battery that is needed to powered the large screen.

Samsung has announced that three versions of the Galaxy Note 2 will be available ins 16GB, 32GB and 64GB memory version and each of these is available in either marble white and titanium grey. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be released in the UK in October, alongside European, Asian and Middle Eastern launches with prices coming in the next few weeks.
