The BBC has announced it will be getting on the UltraViolet and Blu-Ray bandwagon finally as it has released its first line-up of BBC produced content to hit the HD format, in time for Christmas 2012.
This makes stocking fillers for Dad a little easier, as BBC Worldwide has announced the titles that will be getting an UltraViolet release in the UK.
All of the discs will come in the mega pack format which includes a Blu-Ray version, UltraViolet Digital Copy and DVD version in each pack, and Blu-Ray owners can look forward to the following Beeb TV shows:
- Doctor Who Series 7 Part 1
- Top Gear
- Attenborough: 60 Years in the Wild
- John Bishop’s: Rollercoaster
The discs will be released late-October onwards in both DVD and Blu-ray form.
Claude London, Digital Director for BBC Worldwide Consumer Products comments: “We’re thrilled to be announcing our first UV-enabled DVDs and embrace this new era for home video – the UltraViolet era. We hope UV will empower consumers to build digital entertainment libraries and continue to enjoy BBC Worldwide releases either at home or on the move. We will continue to work as part of the UV consortium and with our supporting partner Flixster on further releases for early 2013”.
The UltraViolet system means that users will be supplied with a digital version of the content they are buying that will allow copies to be redeemed online and then stream the content on a mobile or PC-based device for viewing online and offline.
UltraViolet content is currently on the rise in the UK and the US thanks to some recent input from Paramount Studios, Sony, and streaming service Flixster, and the company is spreading to cover Canada, Ireland and Australia in the next couple of months.
