Apple releases iTunes 11 – New design, iCloud and expanded view

After a long wait, Apple has released the latest version of its iTunes software, version 11. The update has been known about for some time and see’s one of the biggest change ups in iTunes’s history.

The update will come with a new user interface and a simpler design, plus integration of major new features such as iCloud.  In the past few weeks we have been seeing increasing leaks and bits of information regarding the release of the new software, with a German music label even requesting that bands update their album cover information with larger images to suit the new software.

Some of the new features including an expanded view for albums will allow you to view details of the album in iTunes without having to click away from the page. You will also be able to buy albums and songs directly from your music library without having to visit the iTunes store page and there is an updated playlists feature that makes it easier to create playlists.

Apple has also added a new smaller Mini Player that will allow you skip to the next track, back to the previous, see what is lined up next to play and even search your collection and choose a different song without having to open your library.

The update has come in line with Apple’s new product line-up and iOS 6 OS so the update to iTunes was pretty much a necessity to keep in line with its rivals.

You can download iTunes 11 from Apple.com if you don’t already have iTunes 10, or will be prompted to download the update the next time you open the older version.
