It’s been a long wait but there might be some light at the end of the tunnel for Sony Xperia S users as it looks like the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware is almost ready and could possibly be landing in the coming weeks.
The upcoming firmware has made an appearance on PTCRB, the North American wireless device certification forum, where it lists that the Sony LT26i, otherwise known as the Xperia S, will be getting the Jelly Bean update as well as the Xperia SL and the Japan-only Xperia Acro S.
The website shows that the firmware is currently being certified which means that the update is in the final stages of its build and is being readied to be signed off and delivered to devices around the world.
This news comes over 6 months after Sony said the Xperia S will be getting the Jelly Bean update and just under year after Android Jelly Bean was originally unleashed by Google, so the update has taken its sweet time in getting to us.
Obviously this is yet to be officially confirmed by Sony and even if the certification is correct then there could still be some issues with the software build that could see it delayed, but it’s good to see that Sony is moving forward with the update and that owners of the Xperia S might be getting some long awaited Jelly Bean action.
Once the 4.1.2 update has been confirmed it will then be over to a (possible) slow rollout across territories and networks, which means the wait is still not over.
If Sony does release the update in the coming weeks it will probably be OTA so customers can download the update via Wi-Fi, although Sony’s PC Companion software may be required to complete the process.
