Sony’s 20-megapixel Sony Xperia i1 coming before the end of the year

The age of the massive camera Smartphones is nearly on us, as last week Nokia revealed its long rumoured Nokia Lumia 1020 41 Megapixel EOS sporting Windows Phone 8 handset, Samsung releasing its Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom Camera/Smartphone and now Sony are getting in on the camera spirit with the rumoured 20-megapixel Sony Xperia i1.

Sony’s Kenji Sakai, CEO for Korea, has said that they will be releasing their Camera-Phone, The Sony Xperia i1, by the end of year where they will be releasing the currently codenamed 20 megapixel Sony “Honami”.

This chitchat has come regarding the release of the phone in Sakai’s homeland of Korea so there is still no information on the Sony i1 being released outside of Asia.

With Sony being a Japan based company and having a history of releasing Asia specific smartphones and products it could well be a Korea/Japan only handset, but with Nokia and Samsung both looking at this new market niche we suspect (and hope!) that the Honami will land on our shores.

The i1 is rumoured to be an Xperia Android handset similar to the Xperia Z smartphones that are currently on release but its main feature will be a 20-megapixel camera that comes with an f/2.0 aperture and 5mm focal length. It will also come with BIONZ image processing and a Xenon flash with the Sony Cybershot-branded features.

As with most rumoured phones t this time of the year, Sony may reveal its i1 phone information at Septembers IFA event in Berlin where many big names manufacturers will be showing off their Q3/4 and Christmas products.
