Activision confirms more Call of Duty in 2012 as Modern Warfare 3 enjoys success

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been basking in victory in its first day after breaking record numbers of copies in the first few hours of public sale for Xbox 360 and PS3. So much so that the game’s publisher Activision is already openly discussing a new COD title as soon as 2012.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick spoke of the next spin-off plans when delivering the quarterly report and says that a successor to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be on its way. However, nothing is yet set in stone but the game should be joining a new Diablo sequel and an expansion to the popular World of Warcraft called Mists of Pandaria in next year’s gaming roll out. He states “As we focus on 2012, we have a strong product pipeline which features a minimum of two highly-anticipated new titles from Blizzard Entertainment, including Diablo III, and a new Call of Duty game from Activision Publishing.”

Speculation suggests that Treyarch will once again have involvement in the next Call of Duty’s development, so we would most likely be looking at a new Black Ops adventure. Exciting stuff to think about, while gamers are currently getting their teeth into the most recent dose of Duty.

The report also revealed that Activision now makes more of its financial gain on digital games and content than it does on ‘physical’ games.
