After much rumour Intel has finally confirmed that they will be supplying the tech to run the Android platform Honeycomb – which will bring superior processing power to enabled-tablets.
In a conference call this this week, Chief Executive and President of Intel Paul Otellini said “We’ve received the Android code – the Honeycomb version of Android source code – from Google, and we’re actively doing the port on that.”
Otellina went on to state that once the chips are ported into tablets, work will begin on doing the same with smartphones – which are to be next in line for major support through the installation of Intel chips.
Dates are yet to be announced for when Intel technology will begin to be included in either tablets or smartphones, but speculation suggests Intel processors will make their powerful presence known on Android tablets later in 2011.
