Apple App Store set for Christmas shut down

There will be no App-y Christmas for iOS developers this year, as Apple has announced that its staff will be shutting up shop with the ‘famous‘ App Store going un-manned over the festive period.

What this means is that the devs will be unable to add new iPhone, iPod or iPad apps to the library (which in May 2011 recorded more than 500-thousand apps available) or make adjustments or updates to software already submitted – a Christmas bonus for app downloaders who won’t be privy to any unexpected price rises on their much loved apps over the holidays.

Apple issued its statement via email to all developers signed up to iTunes Connect, which addressed the extended rest period and read: “We strongly recommend that you do not schedule pricing changes through the interval pricing system in iTunes Connect that would take effect from December 22 through December 29.”

The email continues with a somewhat harsh threat, telling any dev who chooses to try to modify their app during the break that consequences would mean “the app will become unavailable for purchase”.

Recently a security expert found a flaw in iOS which could potentially allow malicious apps onto our prized Apple gadgets. Check out the Gadget Helpline coverage of this story – Here.
