We’ve heard it before, and now the reports are getting more frequent: Apple will make the jump from 3.5-inches to 4 when it launches the new iPhone later this year.
Originally Apple-focussed news site iLounge reported that the iPhone 5 – or new iPhone, or just ‘iPhone’ – would be slightly longer and thinner to accommodate a new 4-inch screen.
The Wall Street Journal – who tend to have a good track record when it comes to sniffing out Apple secrets – cited several anonymous sources in a report published today that claims Apple will use a screen that is at least 4 inches diagonally.
To boot, the publication also believes that Apple has already placed orders for these screen parts, which will continue to be called ‘Retina Displays’, with a high resolution and high pixel density for a clear and crisp picture. The companies to be producing the screen parts are apparently LG, Sharp and Japan Display.
Adding fuel to the fire, another major worldwide publication – Reuters – today independently published a report that mirrors the WSJ’s information. Again, the 4-inch screen is mentioned by a source.
Another long-awaited feature to be included in the next iPhone is 4G connectivity, which has been cited by WSJ in their report today. While many competitors have launched several 4G LTE phones, Apple has bided its time when it comes to smartphones and 4G. It did, however, recently launch the third generation iPad with 4G connectivity. This caused uproar in several countries that don’t have 4G networks yet, as the iPad’s advertising was claimed to be misleading.
Apple will kick off its annual WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) on June 11th in San Francisco, where many hope to see the new iPhone. However, it is more likely that Apple will reveal the new software that the next iPhone will run – iOS 6 – along with new MacBook and iMac products and OS X 10.8 to go with them. The Cupertino Company is expected to announce a new iPhone in August/September time.
