Apple Goes Green – Will Recycle Your Old PC For Free, Your Old iPhone For Gift Cards

Apple has overhauled its recycling program – which few seemed to know about – to include free recycling for your old PCs and Screens, yes, Windows PCs!

The Cupertino company has been running a gadget recycling program since 2005 and used to offer around 10% discount on a new iPod purchase when you brought an old iPod into an Apple retail store. That option is still valid, but Apple has just made some new changes to include other products in their recycling program.

You can post your old mobile phone (any make whatsoever) to Apple and they will recycle it for free, or take your old Mac laptop or desktop into an Apple store to get it recycled in exchange for an Apple gift card, which will be to the value that Apple believes your Mac has.

With the new changes to Apple’s recycling program, old iPhones and iPads can also be taken in and exchanged for a gift card (though we doubt many will be recycling their iPads just yet). Windows PCs and old computer displays will now be recycled for free too, whereas before Apple would charge you around £25 for the privilege. The new recycling policy on Apple’s site reads as follows:

“Turn that iPhone, iPad, or computer—Mac or PC—you’re not using anymore into something brand new. Send it to us and we’ll determine if it qualifies for reuse. If it does, that means your device has monetary value that we’ll apply to an Apple Gift Card, which you can use for purchases at any Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. If your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or PC doesn’t qualify for reuse, we’ll recycle it responsibly at no cost to you.”

We can’t see many people taking back an old iPhone or iPad for recycling just yet – you’d get much more by selling your item to an individual. Free recycling for your old PC or screen, however, is much more useful. Not many places will take away your old broken PC for free!

We say good on Apple for promoting recycling and keeping green!
