To the surprise and possibly dismay of Infinity Pad TF700 owners, Asus has chosen its more affordable Transformer Pad TF300 to be the first tablet to receive the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 update.
The company has just confirmed that the very latest version of Google’s Android OS is headed to the more affordable TF300 via a press release, noting that the US region would be the first to get it.
Users will be able to download and install the update over the air via Wi-Fi by selecting the Software Update option in the Settings app, ensuring that you have 50% battery minimum and a stable Wi-Fi connection, of course.
Android 4.2 is Google’s latest version of Android and until very recently it was only available on the flagship Nexus devices, the Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus. It brings improvements to the user interface, a new quick settings menu in the drop-down notification tray, and the Camera Spheres feature.
Asus revealed the Transformer Pad TF300 last year as a more affordable version of the popular Transformer Prime, which itself was superseded by the Infinity Pad. We’re sure owners of the more pricey models will feel hard done by, but we’re sure Asus will bring the update to its pricier devices as well.
Other regions will get the update later in the month, although Asus doesn’t confirm exactly which ‘other regions’ it means. Fingers crossed for Europe!
