Black and White iPhone 5 Rear Case Parts Appear Online

[tab name=’News’]

Apple’s WWDC event is almost upon us, but the chances of us seeing a new iPhone during the event’s 4 day schedule are slim to nothing.

We’ll see the software that the iPhone 5 or ‘next iPhone’ will run – iOS 6 – but in typical Apple fashion, the device itself will remain tightly under wraps until later in the year, typically around August and September.

However, Apple’s commitment to keeping their next iPhone a secret isn’t upheld by accessory makers and third party companies who happen to get their hands on snippets of information. We’ve recently seen a picture of a part that many believe to be the front fascia from the iPhone 5, and now we have pictures of the rest of the casing.

The iPhone 4 and 4S are made up of a rear panel, front panel and the metal frame that runs around the outside of the phone. However, these recent pictures depict a phone casing that has the back and sides together as one. If these pictures turn out to be legit, Apple will be swapping out the glass rear panel in favour of a brushed metal plate, but will keep the same silver metal strip running around the edge of the phone.

In keeping with the iPhone tradition, we see both white and black cases in the picture – something that Apple will surely offer.  The camera and flash stay in the same place on the back, the volume buttons and lock switch appear to look the same and are in the same place, however with these cases the headphone jack has moved from the top to the bottom of the device.

This seems an odd decision and one that we didn’t envision Apple doing. The headphone jack sits next to a smaller, rounded dock connector, which has been rumoured before. The dock is flanked by drilled holes, which will cover the phone’s internal speaker, whereas previously Apple has used two metal grilles.

Overall the case appears to prove the idea of a longer, thinner iPhone that we’ve heard plenty about recently. Glass makes way for metal and the black and white colours on each phone only appear at the top and bottom, above the large metal back panel as a trim of sorts.

What do you think? Would you like the next iPhone to look like this?
