Microsoft has finally confirmed a date for the Xbox 360 Dashboard update it has been working on for quite some time now; December 6th.
Xbox 360 owners worldwide will receive the update two weeks from today, with an improved user interface, new look and feel and deeper Kinect integration being the key features of the update.
We’ve heard plenty about the new dashboard update before, thanks to various videos and information leaking online. Everything is now official thanks to Microsoft’s confirmation last night, and now all we have to do is wait.
So what will the dashboard update bring, exactly? Well, first off Microsoft has worked on the Kinect integration. They say that the voice recognition for Kinect has both been improved and has been integrated deeper into the dashboard. This is certainly something we’re looking forward to trying out.
Secondly, the update will also see a host of new apps added to the 360 console, specifically to provide streaming video content from more suppliers. These include YouTube, LoveFilm and Daily Motion, which join the existing Sky service to bring Film and TV streaming to your console.
The new apps will work with the new improved Kinect voice recognition, allowing gamers to speak a voice command to perform a Bing search for the video content they want to see.
Finally, Microsoft’s designers have set to work on the look of the Xbox 360 dashboard, giving it a lick of paint and bringing the design in-line with the Metro theme used on Windows Phone and soon to be on Windows 8.
The dashboard is currently in beta testing phases, so developers and perhaps even some lucky gamers out there are already using it. If you’re one of the lucky few to be using the new dash, let us know what you think of it!
