Since it launched last year the Nexus 7 from Google has become wildly popular as a well-priced and capable Android tablet. However, it’s been missing one thing the whole time: an official docking station.
We knew that Asus had plans to launch an official dock, as the product had appeared in several unofficial pictures previously, however it seemed a delay of some description had put paid to an earlier launch. Asus is now officially shown off the dock during CES 2013, and claims it will be launching very soon for £79.
Owners of the Nexus 7 may have pondered what the three gold dots on the edge of the tablet are for – well, now you know. These form a magnetic connection with the official dock, which then allows you to charge the device from a mains socket.
On the back of the dock there are micro USB and audio jacks to allow you to both charge the Nexus 7 and output audio from the tablet to a set of speakers. It’s designed to sit on your bedside table or desk, providing a sturdy and weighty base to keep your tablet in place for charging and blasting out the tunes.
Asus still hasn’t put an official launch date on the dock, but promises it will hit the UK in the next few weeks and for £79.
