Following the lead of Simba and pals in the 3D adaptation of The Lion King, which is currently wow-ing US crowds all over again since it’s original release in 1994, Disney are looking to the future of the film format and it’s franchises by announcing a line-up of family friendly faves set for a three-dimensional revival over the next few years.
The Lion King has so far raked in over $80-million in one week since it’s return to cinema and the movie is set to paw it’s way to the United Kingdom next week – making the Walt Disney co. even more profits from the ‘tail’ of Simba, a young lion and his companions on his journey to animal royalty. We all know the story. We all love the story – It’s one of those timeless Disney masterpeices which will always entice an audience, including many younger film-goers enjoying the movie for the first time ever on a brand new cutting edge platform.
With this in mind Disney will be approaching several more of it’s classics for a 3D roll out including Beauty & The Beast in January of 2012 and Finding Nemo in September of the same year. This will be followed by 3D re-release versions of Monsters, Inc and The Little Mermaid throughout 2013.
President of Walt Disney Studios shares his excitement, saying “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”
And, of course, there’s alway room for merchandising such as The Lion King commemorative3D glasses – This is Disney after all!
