How do you guarantee that your game will hit the number one spot in the UK charts? Games Asylum reckons it’s got it figured out, suggesting that publishers should “just delay it for 13 years and release it without letting anybody review it first.”
They are of course talking about Duke Nukem Forever, the game with so many stops, starts, developer changes, delays and setbacks that it’s had an on-and-off development time of around 13 years. And it’s flown right to the heady heights of the UK gaming charts in its first week of release, knocking LA Noire off its perch.
but should it have? Critical reception has been poor to say the least, with scores from most websites averaging around the 3 to 5 out of 10. The Guardian said of the game: “If this was 15 years in the making, it makes you wonder what they did for the other 14 years and 10 months.” Scathing.
