Electronic Arts Store becomes “Origin” – Digital downloads to rival Steam

Electronic Arts aim to take some of the heat from Steam by refreshing its online store and downloadable games service which is now called “Origin”.

Like digital distributor Valve’s popular Steam system Origin will bring games directly to our Windows PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 – even extending to our mobile gadgets.

Log-in details and accounts remain the same, the big change however is the name and the widespread availability of the Electronic Arts gaming experience.

“Origin lives where you live” states the new-look website. Adding “On your mobile phone, on your desktop and on the web, Origin is always there”.

Grab your games through the simple one-stop app with popular EA titles touching down on the service right now includnig Crysis 2, Sims 3 and Darkspore – along with some pre-orders such as FIFA ’12 and Alice: Madness Returns and expansion packs adding enjoyment to already owned titles in your collection.

With the addition of “in-game overlay” you can interact with mates whilst playing your fave games and enjoy a social network experience including profiles, chat and game sharing alongside other members of the Origin community.

For the gamer-on-the-move, EA brings its top mobile titles to the Origin service taking advantage of smartphone tech the system will allow gamers to find their pals and connect playtime in what Electronic Arts claims is an “unmatched experience”.

You can download the new Origins application now from www.origin.com – log-in with your existing EA Store account details or set up a new one to enjoy the universe of gaming on offer.
