Facebook and Dropbox team up to offer new Dropbox group sharing

Dropbox has teamed up with Facebook to bring its free cloud storage service to the super popular social media site in a new Facebook Groups Dropbox sharing option.

The new feature will allow users to add videos, documents, notes and photos into a Facebook group and let all of the users of that group share that document, or as Dropbox puts it:

“Now you can share notes with your study group, add the latest game schedule to your basketball team’s group, or post a birthday video to your family’s group at lightning speed from wherever you are”

The new feature has all of the standard Facebook functionality, so users can like or comment on anything you share within the group, plus if you make any edits to a file you’ve shared, the group will get an update automatically.

To use the new functionality Facebook has added a new clickable ‘Add File’ function to the group page. You will need to upload the files will via a Dropbox Facebook app, which once installed you will then be able to share the information with a Facebook group of your choice.

Dropbox has said: “This is an exciting partnership for Dropbox, as it builds upon their mission to create easier ways for people to be more productive, collaborate, and access their life’s work whenever they need it, whether from mobile devices or multiple computers.”

The feature is gradually being rolled out from Wednesday onwards, so if you’re not seeing it already you can expect it to show up in the very near future.
