Facebook’s latest product, the Android launcher Facebook Home, has reportedly been downloaded over 500,000 time since its release 10 days ago on April 12th, which sees half a million Android users with the new UI.
The Facebook Home launcher has been available on the Google Play Store for the past 2 weeks and it has been downloaded a decent 500,000 times but many consider this to be a poor release for Facebook’s latest baby.
The information comes from Benedict Evans noted, who noted on Twitter that the Home app has left the 100,000 to 500,000 download range listed on Google Play and is now in the 500,000 to 1 million range.
“Facebook Home has just passed 500k downloads on Google Play” he posted.
Now when you consider that Facebook has over a billion users, 500K isn’t a huge milestone for the company, but being only 2 weeks into the release and with a limited number of handsets compatible with the Facebook Home app it’s still a good start for Facebook.
The app is currently only available on select devices including the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, HTC One X, HTC One and the HTC One X+ and the Facebook Home device, the HTC First.
Looking at the app on the Google Play Store you will see that the application is pretty badly reviewed with a number of 1 star reviews, but as with most applications that are high profile some of this feedback can be taken with a pinch of salt.
The number of installations can in part be thanked by Facebook running a large amount of ads that Zuckerberg and co. have been putting out for FB Home, but there is still a long way to go for Facebook Home to take over the smartphone market.
