Popular social app Facebook Messenger has touched down on BlackBerry gadgets, bringing it into direct competition with RIM’s native BBM software.
Widening the choice of chat on BlackBerry smartphones and the Playbook tablet, the Facebook Messenger app was announced by the Social Network yesterday. Facebook spoke out on the new addition that now brings BlackBerry users up-to-date with Android and iPhone owners, who recently got their social on via the dedicated and stand-alone buddy app.
“In this version, we’ve included a bunch of new features and performance improvements designed to make your messaging experience even better.” says Facebook.
As mentioned, this is a whole new stand-alone application, not tied-in to the current Facebook social app which is available for BlackBerry. However, sending a message via the app will send a message to your pal’s site-based Facebook account, or if they don’t have one (who doesn’t?) your important update will send as a text. The new app focuses on messaging, so yes, expect a BBM style experience with Facebook flavour. We really think it’s really going to split the market.
The app will let you continue your Facebook Chat conversations while on the go, as well as sending and receiving both ‘Inbox’ messages and Facebook email.
