Gadget Helpline’s Smart Alternatives: Honor 5X with Android 5.1.1

After launching in the Far East late last year Chinese mobile maker Huawei will be releasing its budget friendly Honor 5X smartphone in the United States this month.

Despite being around for a little while the Honor 5X’s release in the west qualifies it as one of our Smart Alternatives – mobile products that may fall under the radar but are actually very respectable and functional handsets, deserving of public awareness.

And this smartphone is just that. For the $200 US asking price the Huawei Honor 5X owners will get a full Android 5.1.1 experience displayed on a generous 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 LCD touchscreen display. The device is driven by a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage which can be expanded with microSD card slot. The phone supports dual-SIMs with both Nano and Micro supported and camera tech is very respectable also, with a 13-megapixel light-capturing main camera and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls.

Designed for the hip, younger market, the stylish brushed aluminium finish of the Honor 5X casing also makes it look worth more than its cost – a nice touch in a society where smartphones are a not only for communication but also an item of fashion. And also good news for the paying parents.

The Honor 5X will be released in the United States on January 31st but there is not yet any confirmation of the product getting released in UK or Europe.
