We recently covered the newest Gears of War 3 advert, which appeared online and just recently surfaced between our favourite shows as it rolled out as a telly promotional campaign for the Xbox 360 title heading out for one final mission on September 20th. You may remember the ad finished off with the chilling message – THE END.
At first we could only presume that mean the climax to the current story arc featuring Marcus Fenix and his Delta Squad in their battles against the invading Locust forces. But a fellow blog has grabbed a word with the games Exec Producer who implies that this may be the end of ‘Gears’ altogether..
Rod Fergusson of Rage says “Right now, we’re really focused on 3” suggesting that part 4 or an entire new series could be a long way off he continues “we sort of have the blinders on right now. But, I think that once we have that afterglow and wake up from sleeping, we will have to look around.”
He goes on to talk about how mobile gaming and the ‘changing face of video games’ suggesting it would mean that the next evolution of Gears of War would be a long thought out process involvement platform development, but stating that the exclusive allegiance with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 would remain tight.
He finishes leaving us with a little bit of skewed optimism: “I think I was quoted by some reporter when I was drunk at a party that Gears 2 was the best you could ever do, and look what we did with 3. I’ve learned my lesson.”
So the future of Gears of War is left in mystery.. But at least we know there’s one more game to play and it’s on its way as anticipation builds towards next Tuesday!
