Gingerbread update for Xperia X10 due this week

  • by

Sony Ericsson has posted a tasty little treat on their official Facebook Page, telling us that the official Android Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10 is coming this week.

The post states “The launch of the 2.3 software for X10 is getting closer, and the planned release date is approx. w30.”

Week 30 began yesterday, meaning the update is going to land any day now.

Sony Ericsson did put a dampener on things, however, stating that the release date was subject to change, but that did not stop the excitement on the X10 community.

The Xperia X10 was a good phone, it was just a shame that when it came out it was running an old version of Android at a time when competing flagship smartphones were coming out with the latest Android 2.2 at the time. It’s taken them a long time, but it’s good to finally see Sony Ericsson release a Gingerbread update for the X10.

Although Sony Ericsson did update the device it took a long time for the 2.2 (FroY0) update to come out for the X10, and again similarly aged devices were getting 2.3 Gingerbread updates already.

It seems that the X10 has finally caught up and is going to be running Android 2.3 in the near future.

As usual, unbranded devices will be updated first and devices branded to networks will need to wait for the update to be authorised by the network.
