Google Chrome OS arriving in June?

As I’m sure a lot of you gadget lovers will know, Google has been testing its cloud-based operating system since December last year. You may also remember the search engine giant giving out hundreds of free laptops for eager testers to use in conjunction with the OS.

Well, the latest news is that Google have been chatting with the folks over at Pocket-Lint, and have apparently confirmed to them that they are getting ready to launch Chrome OS, and that we could possibly see it in Q2 of this year – so perhaps June time.

Reports also suggest that Google are currently in talks with various hardware manufacturers, and are also testing devices with the likes of Acer and also Samsung. It would also seem that the Chrome OS will be shipped with specific hardware at launch, although don’t worry – Chrome is an open source project so if you want to use the OS, you will be able to obtain a disk image directly from Google which should allow you to install it on your PC.

What are your thoughts on the Chrome OS? Perhaps you would prefer to use a cloud-based operating system for more convenience? Don’t forget to leave us your comments or tweet us @Gadget_Helpline.
