UPDATE
Well, that didn’t take long. After Google’s 16GB Nexus 7 tablet sold out at the Play Store quicker than half-price iPhones, it’s back. Both versions are now available again directly from Google, with shipping estimated to take between 3 and 5 days.
Buying through the Play Store will gain you a free download of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and £15 of credit to spend on apps, eBooks, and movies from the Play Store.

Those hoping to get their mitts on the 16GB version of the Google/Asus Nexus 7 will no longer be able to order via Google themselves.
The pricier version of the new tablet has been withdrawn from sale on the Google Play Store due to huge demand. The 8GB version is still available from the store for £159, and those who ordered the 16GB model before July 20th will still get their order. Currently the store offers to send an email to notify those interested in the 16GB model.
Both versions will be sold elsewhere of course, with outlets such as Tesco and Currys currently stocking the 16GB particularly. Google hasn’t commented on whether the stock delays facing its own Play Store orders are likely to affect other retailers.
It’s thought that Google ordered more of the 8GB model to be made, thinking that the lower price would lure the most customers in. Since launching, it’s become clear that more customers are willing to shell out the extra dough in order to bag double the inbuilt storage, shunning Google’s offer of cloud-based storage.
Asus, Google’s manufacturing partner for the Nexus 7, is apparently working on a new batch of the tablets. It’s still unclear as to how long it will take for the 16GB model to become available through the Play Store again.
Ordering via the Play Store will score you a free download of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and £15 credit to spend on apps, books and movies in the Play Store. This seems to be the best deal by far for would-be Nexus 7 owners, which is likely to be part of the reason they’ve sold out so quickly.
For those unaware, the Nexus 7 is the work of a partnership between Google and Asus – a 7-inch tablet with a powerful quad-core processor, impressive 7-inch ISP screen, and the latest Android operating system; 4.1 aka Jelly Bean.
