We’ve known for a while now that Google intended to update the Gmail interface thus giving a better overall experience for its users when it demoed it back in early July.
Since then Google has added even more updates and other improvements to the new Gmail ,and feels like now’s the time to release the new version and roll it out across its vast user base.
Google has said that over the next few days, users should start to see the option to switch to the new version, which should appear at the bottom-right of Gmail. After switching to the new Gmail, you’ll be able to take advantage of an abundance of new features including:
Streamlined conversations – this conversation view has been completely redesigned, which now makes it even easier to scan through received email, also included is the ability to view profile pictures of your contacts next to received mail.
Elastic density – this works by automatically adjusting the space between elements on the screen, basically meaning that no matter what sort of screen-size you’re viewing your mail on, it should appear correctly.
HD themes – Google have also rebuilt the themes available in Gmail, there is now a new set of HD themes provided by iStockphoto.
Better search – the new Gmail look also has a new advanced search panel, thus making it even easier to find your email.
