Yesterday an HP Spokesperson revealed on the company blog that “one more batch” of the elusive discounted TouchPad tablets would go into production, speculation suggested that this stock would be distributed limitedly through the United States, as well as the United Kingdom and rest of the world.
This is true for tech-fans in the States. But The Gadget Helpline has investigated further to bring our UK readers an accurate account of the situation regarding stock of the TouchPad and a contact at HP has unfortunately informed us of the following:
“We are pleased by the response to webOS and look forward to customer feedback so we can further enhance the platform. A limited quantity of TouchPads will be available in the coming weeks in North America only. In EMEA we are discontinuing the webOS hardware operations and will not offer any additional products beyond what might be currently available in selective outlets.”
The HP TouchPad became the must-grab bargain a few weeks ago when HP declared its discontinuation of native operating system WebOS. In wake of the software’s demise the price of the tablet was slashed down to around a third of its original asking price in the USA and UK and, of course, the tech buying market went into frenzy – all stocks of TouchPad selling out in minutes.
The final batch of HP TouchPad tablets is said to be a limited run of 200,000 units, as we now know this will be for the North American market only and presumably following the previous price pattern. This would mean the cost of a 16GB HP TouchPad is still slashed from $500 to only $99.99, with 32GB model down from $600 to $149.99.
