HTC today officially announced its incremental follow-up smartphone to the HTC One X in the form of the HTC One X+, which will be sporting the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software. Not long after the announcement of the One X+, HTC also let slip that the Jelly Bean OS will also be coming to both the One X and One S in November and December.
The Taiwanese company confirmed that the HTC One X will be getting the update sometime in November and the One S will get the 4.1 Android OS a few weeks later in December.
Additionally, with the Jelly Bean update the X and S will also be getting the latest HTC Sense User Interface with Jelly Bean, which is named HTC Sense 4+. This will bring a new features and a few small changes to the Sense 4 interface, including few visual layout changes and minor operational tweaks.
Sense 4+ will bring an enhanced Gallery app (with a new way of viewing your images by location), a camera app that you can go straight to from standby without the need to unlock, and an update of the movie rental service to HTC Watch 2.0, which will allow for better multiscreen sharing with your television as well as direct access to relevant movie-related apps.
Additionally, a new ‘Getting Started’ feature will also be on offer, which will allow users to set up their phones through HTC’s website and have the package sent right down to their new handset and any future handsets to save all the fiddling through different menus.
All in all it’s great news for old HTC and new HTC fans alike as both the One X and S and the new X+ are excellent smartphones and the company is keeping the devices relevant whilst still getting new products released.
If only Sony could take some notes!
