While its new Windows Phone 8X and 8S models continue to impress, HTC’s flagship Android smartphone, the One X, is set to upgrade to Android Jelly Bean 4.1 next month.
Android fan site Modaco has confirmed the news, and says that HTC will start by rolling out the update to unlocked or ‘SIM-free’ versions of the phone sometime next month.
As has become customary, those who purchased their phone through a network will need to wait a little while longer to get the update. Whilst Google may have given the all-clear for the update to hit unlocked phones, networks will want to test the software to ensure their customers will benefit from it and get the best possible experience. This process usually adds weeks or even months on to the original launch of the update.
However, Modaco reckons that the update should be available to all HTC One X models before Christmas, provided there are no large and unforeseen hiccups for any networks.
While existing owners of the One X await Jelly Bean, we’ve still got some new Android phones from HTC to look forward to. The HTC One X+ has long been a rumoured upgrade to the current One X, and it’s recently been confirmed that the phone will land with Jelly Bean on board, just like the Samsung Galaxy SIII LTE is going to for EE customers in the UK.
This is great news for One X owners, but we’re sure owners of the One S and One V will be left wondering when they will get their updates. We’re sure the One S can manage Jelly Bean, although we’re not too sure that HTC will bother to bring it to the One V unfortunately.
