The HTC One range of handset have been getting a bit of a hard time with their supposed Android Jelly bean 4.1 update as HTC themselves cannot seem to make up their mind on when to release the update to all of the customers. Well after last month’s false start (the update was released but only for users in Singapore and Taiwan) HTC have now readied a full Worldwide Jelly bean update.
The 4.1 update will be coming to the HTC One X and One S handsets (HTC has ruled out an update to the mid-range HTC One V) globally with a slow rollout starting form today.
HTC One X owners in the UK, Russia, India, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and other areas should be able to download the update over-the-air now with other regions coming imminently.
You can wait for the update to arrive on your handset via OTA but you may need to check that you have Automatic Update checking enabled on your smartphone. You can do this by:
Settings > Software Updates > Check Now.
Jelly Bean on the X and S will be bringing the latest HTC Sense User Interface with Jelly Bean, which is named HTC Sense 4+. This will bring a new features and a few small changes to the Sense 4 interface, including few visual layout changes and minor operational tweaks.
Sense 4+ will bring an enhanced Gallery app (with a new way of viewing your images by location), a camera app that you can go straight to from standby without the need to unlock, and an update of the movie rental service to HTC Watch 2.0, which will allow for better multiscreen sharing with your television as well as direct access to relevant movie-related apps
Jelly bean itself will offer a user interface which is faster, with speedier switches of orientation from portrait to landscape. You’ll also be able to switch between apps faster. Face Unlock is more accurate than in previous versions, and you can swipe from the camera viewfinder to see your photos for review.
The slight bad news is that the update has already been superseded by Android Jelly Bean 4.2 but with this being only an incremental update we hope HTC can be a bit faster off the mark to being the next update down.
