HTC is continuing its push forward to bring the latest version of the Google Android operating system version to all of its handsets, with the Taiwanese company confirming that its other budget smartphone , the HTC Wildfire S, will be getting an upgrade to the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread software.
However, as with the original Wildfire this will come at a price, as the memory and processing limitations on the budget phone will mean that the Gingerbread update will not have HTC’s Sense UI.
HTC is now in the third iteration of its excellent Sense user interface which comes with their Android smartphones, but users of the HTC Wildfire S and other budget handsets like the Wildfire original and the ChaCha will not be getting the new HTC Sense 3.0.
The lack of the HTC Sense 3.0 is most likely due to the processing power of the handsets, as the specifications needed to run the phone include a minimum processor power of 1GHz (which the Wildfire and ChaCha do not have).
However, the Gingerbread update is also set to include a few extra bug fixes on the HTC Wildfire (most notably with the unlocking and call answering issues) but currently there is no full change log or list of full features available.
The Gingerbread update is set to be coming to HTC budget handsets soon but there has been no official timescale from HTC. We’ll keep you updated on this one.
