New information has revealed that Apple will reveal a new tablet this Wednesday called the iPad HD, not the iPad 3 or iPad 2S as we had previously thought.
The news comes from a very trustworthy source – Griffin, one of the big names in cases, cables and accessories for Apple gadgets. The company has several products on its inventory that are listed as being designed for the ‘Apple iPad HD (3)’. A screengrab of the products was tweeted recently, and the tweeter in question also claims to have confirmed this with Griffin themselves.
The HD tag relates to the high resolution Retina Display that Apple’s next tablet is certain to feature. The name iPad HD has been bandied around recently, though it doesn’t fit in with Apple’s usual method of naming products – could the Cupertino company be changing policy to help consumers recognise the capabilities of its products?
Furthermore, it looks likely that Apple’s new tablet will retail for the same prices as the current iPad 2. With Apple including higher grade components in its new tablet – suspected are the Retina Display, LTE radio and a 5 or 8-Megapixel camera – many expected the price to be hiked to cater for this, with some guessing as much as £50 extra per model.
However, 9to5mac’s trusty source, Mr X, has again come up trumps with information on the pricing. One way or another, Mr X has discovered that Apple plans to send three models to market: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, each with the same pricing as their iPad 2 equivalents (as above).
With the iPad HD expected to contain more expensive components, it would appear that Apple is either set to make less profit per device, or it has somehow managed to keep costs down despite upgrading.
One thing we can be sure of is that Apple will unveil a new tablet this Wednesday, and we’ll be here with the latest news at 6pm; so don’t forget to tune in!
