If you are planning to wait for the new iPhone 5 then you might be waiting a little longer than many had previously thought, as AT&T have been told by Apple that there will not be a new iPhone in June or July.
The June or July release date would have been the most likely date as it coincides with Apple’s yearly developer conference, but this year’s conference is being focused on iOS and Mac OS X Lion apparently.
Apple have always released new handsets after showing them off at their developer conference, but not this year it would seem – so what does this mean for a release date? Well other rumours have suggested that it could be unveiled in September, but that’s just hearsay at the moment.
A representative from AT&T has let slip to MacRumors that the iPhone 5 will not be on shelves in June or July. They also claimed that’s the official word direct from Apple, and it’s more likely to see the handset in September at the earliest.
The AT&T worker said: “Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.”
Now this is only speculation and it can’t be proven one way or another that these claims are true, but it seems more likely that people waiting for the iPhone 5 have a few months to go yet. Do you still expect to see the iPhone 5 released in the summer?
