Now we all know that Samsung and HTC have laid out their cards with the next must have Android smartphones in the form of the HTC One X and the almighty Samsung Galaxy SIII, but LG has now announced that it is ready to bring a quad-core handset to the UK in the form of the LG Optimus 4X HD.
LG has announced that they will be launching the Optimus 4X HD across Europe (Germany, Sweden, Great Britain, Italy and Poland) in June, bringing their Android ICS-sporting smartphone to the quad-core party.
We first heard about the Optimus 4X HD at the MWC 2012 event in Barcelona earlier in the year, where LG announced the Galaxy S3 competitor, but since then we have heard very little. Now LG has scheduled the smartphone for release in June and will directly compete with Samsung and HTC’s flagship phones.
Specifications-wise the 4X HD will sport a 4.7″ True HD 720p HD IPS LCD display, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage running off a Tegra 3 quad-core processor, which is clocked at 1.5GHz. Topping it all off is the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software from Google.
The 4X also sports a respectable 8-megapixel shooter with LED flash, autofocus and touch focus, plus high definition video capture while a tidy front facing 1.3-megapixel camera adequately handles video calling. LG has plumped for a 2150mAh battery to power everything, and despite big features the 4X HD is just 8.9mm thin.
Initially the device is set to be released in Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland and Sweden, but will then be headed to Asia, CIS and South America and is rumoured to be priced from £450 upwards from most good mobile phone retailers. With Samsung releasing the Galaxy SIII in the UK on May 30th, LG look set to offer some competition when its Optimus 4X HD handset is released.
