Microsoft has gone and done a whoopsie ahead of its next flagship smartphone launch on October 6th revealing details and images of both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL on its website.

Interested Lumia buyers have recently been encouraged to register on the website to get the release details on the 950 and slightly superior 950 XL when they were fully announced. But the error saw Microsoft reveal more than they bargained for when the online store listings went live a week early. The front and back views of each of the Windows 10 smartphones were revealed and the listings also gave away a few specifications on each model.

Thanks to the gaff we now know for certain that the Lumia 950 will feature 5.2-inch WQHD touchscreen display, 20-megapixel camera with ZEISS optics, 32GB internal storage with Micro SD support for up to 2TB and with Microsoft’s latest all-round operating system it forms part of the Windows 10 eco-system of devices. Previous leaks suggest that the Lumia 950 will also come with 3GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor.

The larger of the two – the Lumia 950 XL – features 5.7-inch touchscreen, again WQHD quality, also with 20-megapixel main shooter and the same 32GB internal / 2TB expandable storage through Micro SD, also pre-loaded with Windows 10. 3GB of RAM is expected along with processing handled by a slightly upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core chipset.

Aesthetically and technically the two appear near identical aside from the size differences based on their screen dimensions and of course those CPUs, but there may be further differences to report when the duo go official next Tuesday.
