Microsoft launching ‘Diamond’ Xbox LIVE subscription service

Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans have revealed to WinRumors that they are putting the finishing touches to a new ‘Diamond’ Xbox LIVE subscription service which includes TV streaming.

The source also confirmed that Microsoft are finalising a demo of the new service ready for next week’s massive E3 games conference in Los Angeles. “Microsoft is currently in last minute negotiations to secure the necessary agreements in time,” they said.

Rumours of a new Xbox LIVE service including TV streaming have been circulating for a while now; since March of this year in fact, when we learnt about “Project Orapa”.

Project Orapa took its name from a small village in Botswana, which coincidentally is also famous for its huge diamond mines. Diamond would also indicate the next level up from “Gold”, currently Microsoft’s top Xbox LIVE subscription. It’s all beginning to make sense.

Microsoft already has deals in place with ESPN, Hulu and Netflix for the Xbox 360, plus Sky in the UK, so they wouldn’t be too short of TV content for Xboxers.
