Minion Yellow is Now Officially a Pantone Colour

There’s now an official Pantone colour to describe the skin tone of those freaking adorable little Minions from Despicable Me.

Graphic designers, artists and those in the print trade will be familiar with the Pantone Colour Matching System which currently lists well over a thousand different colours all of which have been named and catalogued and include a multitude of shades and in-between tones many of which a lot of us don’t even know exist.

However, to those who don’t see in Pantones, Gru’s diminutive henchmen are just yellow (a bit racist). But Pantone, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures have decided to give the colour of their off-lemon / bleached banana bottoms a name of… Minion Yellow! (obviously).

The choice to add a brand new colour to the Pantone scale based on the spritely popular culture characters is in celebration of their new spin-off film Minions which is released on July 10th and the idea actually came from the singer Pharrell Williams who has provided songs for the Despicable Me soundtracks, including the highly catchy song Happy.

Pantone’s Executive Director says “Just as the sun’s rays enliven us, Pantone Minion Yellow is a color that heightens awareness and creates clarity, lighting the way to the intelligence, originality and the resourcefulness of an open mind – this is the color of hope, joy and optimism.”

We expect the official Fifty Shades of Grey colour range to be announced at any time.
