The original tablet-come-laptop just got a whole lot better, with Asus announcing a brand new Transformer Pad Infinity at the Computex 2013 show.
Working on the same format of 10.1-inch tablet and netbook-sized QWERTY keyboard dock, the new Asus Transformer Pad Infinity features a number of upgrades that look set to make it the best Android tablet around, if not the best tablet full stop.
For starters, the screen has been updated to an IPS display which offers a huge resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, which outdoes the iPad 4’s Retina display. The screen panel is of course also protected with a sheet of ultra-tough Gorilla Glass.
Inside, Asus has upgraded the processor from last year’s Tegra 3 to Nvidia’s brand new Tegra 4 chip. This means that the new Infinity Pad can output video in 4K resolution through its HDMI port, making it compatible with the latest generation of televisions that are filtering through from the likes of Sony and Panasonic.
The tablet also features USB 3.0 connectivity, an SD card slot, 5 megapixel and 1.2 megapixel cameras, 32GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM to back up Nvidia’s latest speedy processor.
We’re unclear on the version of Android that the new Transformer Pad Infinity runs, although it’s expected to be Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Asus tells us that it will be available this autumn, priced roughly at $399 or $499 with the keyboard.
