Nintendo confirms The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD remake for Wii U

Nintendo fans are in for a treat later this year as Nintendo has confirmed it will be remaking a HD version of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker for its new Wii U console.

The original Wind Waker title came out on the GameCube in 2003, sporting a unique and colourful comic style. Nintendo and the large majority of gamers loved the art styles in the game, leading to Ninty’s decision to remake it and launch it on the new console.

During its Wii U Direct event this afternoon Nintendo confirmed the existence of the game along with several other exciting titles involving classic Nintendo characters. Head honcho Eiji Aonuma announced the title at the event, explaining that it would act as a stop-gap of sorts due to the first real Zelda game for Wii U still being a way off.

Wind Waker HD will feature improved graphics, finely tuned and better gameplay and even support for off-screen play on the Wii U GamePad. It’s also going to be compatible with the MiiVerse, so you’ll be able to share achievements and such with friends online.

The game is still a way off and as such Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any such launch date or even a rough time scale. However, we’re likely to see something more extensive shown off at E3 in June.
