Nintendo’s Wii U updated Wii console is looking set to get an official launch at next year’s E3 gaming expo in June, with a possible release date of Christmas 2012 for the world!
Previous reports stated that the new console may hit the shelves around March of 2012, though these now seem to be wrong and even if the console does come that soon we can expect a European and US release to be much later than a Japanese one.
Nintendo launched the new Controller and HD based console system at this year’s E3 gaming conference, but with very little information on the actual specifics of the console given away it was clear that Nintendo were just buying time until they had a more solid specifications and hardware setup for the Wii U.
Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata made as statement regarding the Wii U and likened the forthcoming release to this year’s 3DS launch by stating “Based on the bitter experiences we have had with the Nintendo 3DS, we are making every effort to prepare so that the Wii U will not stumble during its launch”
In the same statement Satoru Iwata said that the Wii U will be go on sale in the next fiscal year (after April) and confirmed that the final version of the console will be showcased at the June E3 2012 expo.
So, after doing our maths, we suspect a late Q3 or early Q4 release date, just in time for the Wii U to shoot to the top of everyone’s Christmas wish list.
