The opening offer for the Best New Smartphone of this February’s Mobile World Congress has been announced, and we now know that the Nokia Pureview 808 will arrive at the end of June or early July with a price tag that’s almost as eye-watering as its 41-megapixel packing visuals.
We’ve been singing the praises of this one since we first saw its debut at MWC, and to remind our readers of some of the impressive specs of the camera phone’s features when used as a mobile; the Nokia Pureview 808 comes with Nokia’s own Symbian operating software (current standard Belle, not Windows Phone, but stayed tuned for that) and it displays on a 4-inch Super AMOLED touch-screen. Processing is handled by a 1.3GHz CPU supported by 512MB of RAM and 16GB of onboard memory.
Onto the main event which is that 41-megapixel super-sharp shooting camera, the focal point of this innovative smartphone (no pun intended). The Pureview 808 features top-end Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and allows you to shoot 38 stunningly high resolution snaps or five at an even impossibly greater resolution where each pixel is formed from seven smaller ones. As well as stills, the camera can capture 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second.
If that’s sold it to you, the Nokia Pureview will cost £499.99 (RRP) SIM-free when it’s released later this month or early next (so in the few next weeks) with our networks yet to detail their contract deals. Gadget Helpline will continue to follow the Nokia Pureview news and bring our readers the latest.
