Reports are breaking that UK’s Nokia web shop will be closing – along with European online outlets in Spain, France and the Netherlands with June 30th as the date set for shutdown.
Poor financial results, falling far below estimations and a drop in shares by 15% in the second quarter of 2011 have Nokia set to shut up shop by the end of the month. A cull of up to 7,000 employees is expected by the company overall and it’s generally been a rough time for the company with this latest blow coming just as the Windows Phone partnership with Microsoft is starting to pick up steam.
Hopefully things will turn around for Nokia, and the partnership will help to pick the company up from this defeat and the partnership will become mutually beneficial as we would hope for – not having Microsoft trying to shrug them off like the annoying under-achieving sibling.
