Today, the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group), who govern the use of Bluetooth and manage the specification have today announced two new brand extensions to its globally recognised logo, which the SIG are hoping will create awareness around compatibility for new devices that are heading to the market that feature Bluetooth version 4.0.
The two new designations are to be known as “Smart Ready” and “Smart”, and have been created purely to inform users of a Bluetooth device’s given capabilities, while making it easier for the SIG to manage devices.
The diagram below explains that Smart Ready devices are fully backward-compatible with older Bluetooth devices as well as other Smart Ready devices, while Smart devices will only connect to Bluetooth Smart Ready devices – make sense?
The Bluetooth SIG explains: “Consumers can look at new Bluetooth Smart Ready devices the same way they would a 3D ready TV – having the TV is just the first part of the puzzle, you need glasses and content in order to really experience 3D,” – “Once consumers have a Bluetooth Smart Ready device, like the new iPhone 4S, they can continue connecting to existing Bluetooth devices and are also ready to experience the new world of Bluetooth Smart peripheral devices that will carry the Bluetooth Smart logo.”
If you’re interested to see which devices or how a device qualifies to bear the new Bluetooth Smart designation, the Bluetooth SIG have a general FAQ page which should hopefully answer a questions you might have.
